HyPurifier -

 

The membrane in Hy9’s membrane purifiers is a planar palladium alloy metal membrane that separates hydrogen from hydrogen containing gas mixtures by permeation of hydrogen. Palladium alloy metal membrane hydrogen separation is a known technology that is commercially applied today in niche applications but has only been demonstrated in membrane reactors in the laboratory and as larger prototypes. Hy9’s method for producing thin palladium alloy membranes has improved the hydrogen productivity per unit of palladium contained in such membranes by a factor of 50 or more compared to the conventional palladium membranes. Exploiting this method is essential for widespread commercialization of economical purifiers and membrane reactors.

 

Hy9 has sold over 600 HyPurifiers™ over the last five years that have had a cumulative run time over 3 million hours under thousands of cycles and can even withstand reverse pressurizations. We are now leveraging these invaluable years of commercial experiences and a decade of R&D to uniquely position Hy9 to provide enabling solutions to industrial hydrogen users/suppliers and fuel cell companies.

Electrolyzers -

 

Hy9 has sold over 600 purifiers over the last five years to mainly one electrolyzer company. These purifiers have had a cumulative run time over 2 million hours under thousands of cycles and can even withstand reverse pressurizations. Hy9 is now selling its purifiers to other electrolyzer companies requiring 99.9999+ purity. Our palladium membrane purifiers provide economic, durable and reliable high purity hydrogen which removes the hassles of drying/changing out of lower purity desiccate cartridges.

Reformers/Fuel Cells -

 

With respect to fuel cell markets, Hy9 is developing several purification applications for fuel cells and hydride storage systems. Contamination of fuels cells from CO, H2S and NH3 and other contaminants can have a very significant and detrimental impact on the efficiency and durability of fuel cells. Depending on the fuel cell company, these containments are either measured in parts per million or parts per billion. Hy9’s palladium membrane purifiers prevent contamination of fuel cells by allowing only hydrogen atoms to diffuse through its membranes. We are also developing other ultra-high purity purifiers that will be able to meet the developing SAE J2719 specification for the auto industry. Hy9 is also in discussion with other reforming companies that are reforming other fuels to provide high purity hydrogen purification for military/civilian fuel cell applications. Finally, with regards to the refilling of metal hydride storage systems, Hy9’s membrane purifiers are essential to prevent any type of contamination of water or other containments which can rapidly degrade the reuse capabilities of these systems.

Industrial Hydrogen Applications -

 

Hy9 is leveraging its success in high-purity hydrogen purification to establish OEM partnerships and enter purification markets for other stored hydrogen systems by providing ultra-high purity (UHP) hydrogen purifiers for the compound semiconductor, LCD and other industries. Hy9 is also in discussion with other large industrial OEMs to apply Hy9’s technology for hydrogen recycling.
